Fast Forward – Opening the door to God’s power

33 And they said to him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.” 34 And Jesus said to them, “Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? 35 The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.” Luke 5:33-35 (ESV)

Fasting is a Christian discipline that often escapes us in the western Christian culture. It’s one of those things we really don’t want to give much thought to but know it’s probably good and would make a difference in our walk with Jesus. However, we just don’t think it is fundamental to the whole Christian experience. Unfortunately, we couldn’t be more wrong.

There is good news. More churches are resurrecting the move to “Fast” and seek God with more expectation than ever before. One theologian has said it is a fad. Maybe it is. Maybe it has experienced a resurgence among church leaders because of one of the worst economic recessions the western world has ever experienced. Famed theologian, Scot McKnight says that “fasting is a natural, inevitable response of a person to a grievous sacred moment in life.” Fasting, Scot McKnight, 2009 Thomas – Nelson. Even if Fasting has erupted due to our desperation to get more from God, at least it is erupting.

At The Summit we have set aside the next 21 days (January 9th – January 29th) to Fast, Pray and devote ourselves to Personal Devotion in God’s Word. We have asked God and written down 7 things each one of us is asking God to accomplish in our lives. We are joining corporately because we are ready to see something so different happen in our community that we are ready to do something radically different. We are asking God to help make fasting a regular part of our lifestyle so we can see a resurgence take place in our church, in our community and in the core of who we are.

Join us as we expect God to do Supernatural acts in the coming months.

To help facilitate our revival we will gather each night, starting Wednesday night, January 11th, to join Elevation Church and Pastor Steven Furtick for 12 days of Code Orange Revival. Click here to see the line-up and then join us at The Summit’s Impact Center @ 6 PM each evening for the exciting time of revival!
