10 Negative Things I Learned About Myself During PUSH
- My prayer life sucked before this challenge. Talking to God takes effort and time.
- I spend too much time being idle. I learned that I didn’t work a SOLID 40 hours doing God’s work. Talking to all your bros about problems in church doesn’t count as “church work”.
- I didn’t spend enough time being Chist-like in front of my family. I need to to be the one who reads Bible stories to my kids; leads our family in devotion and makes family time happen.
- I doubted God too much. My “when” became “if”.
- I had a problem believing God for the impossible. I realized it is hard to absolutely believe God for anything. I liked an excuse or a way out, such as “If it is God’s will”. Faith is absolute or nothing!
- I realized that I didn’t like self-sacrifice. It’s sounds good to preach on, but I would rather punch myself in the face than do it.. I didn’t see big enough rewards to make it a big enough reason. Now I do!
- I discovered that God will test you to trust Him. I’m not sure how this will turn out.
- I found that I was more cynical than I thought. I pride myself in being optimistic, but I discovered I expected the worst more than I expected the best.
- I found that when I am alone, I can be complacent in sharing my faith.
- I discovered that walking close with God doesn’t just happen, but walking away from God does.
30 Day Challenge @ The Summit
What an awesome week we had @ The Summit. We had a new record in our Summit Kidz with 45 Kids in attendance. The kids are pumped every single week. Robert Gentry and his team have got this bunch fired up. Every time they bring a guest that has never been to The Summit they get to sling a cream pie into the face of Robert. They love it.
As part of our PUSH series we are challenging everyone to PUSH through the barriers that keep them from experiencing God’s best. That includes a 30 day challenge for us to PUSH closer to God. I have made the audacious claim that if after 30 days of being completely committed to this challenge, if God hasn’t done something significant in their lives then they should walk away! Find something else. Why? Because I know God will show-up in ways we have never seen.
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! – Malachi 3:10 (NLT)
We are really excited about this. As we do it, we are praying for 300+ at The Summit on Easter Sunday (some are expecting many more…Go God!) and that more people would step into a personal relationship with Jesus on that day than any other day this community has ever seen. That means we are praying for every church and pastor in our community…NOT just The Summit!
If you want to do the 30 day challenge you can download by clicking here or by going to www.TheSummitLive.tv and clicking on the “This Month” tab.
Be Happy!

The Summit’s Worship Team ROCKS!
I realized yesterday that Scott Greer, our worship pastor, has 18 musicians, vocalists and technical peeps rotatin’ in-and-out and rockin’ the house every single weekend! That is awesome! God God and Go Summit family!
5 Months & Counting
By God’s good pleasure The Summit Church is entering into our 6 month and we are really seeing the evidence of why God wanted us in Seymour.
The community is an old community and much like other small regions in the south, it appears there are churches on every corner. However, Seymour and its surrounding area is very transient in its population. Many people hail from Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina and other parts of the country. They came here for a better life. A more peaceful life, one that may be a bit slower than what they were accustomed to and one where they might be able to start over. Many are wounded in life. Divorce, financial ruin, failed careers, addiction, depression, and even a feeling of being let down or abandoned by the church. Many have said they would never go to church again and they would never trust again. Read the rest of this entry »
How Does God Answer Prayer?
“Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.” - 2 Corinthians 1:9-11 (NIV)
I just reconnected with an old friend on Facebook and found out that life as he knows it has been turned upside down. His 22 year marriage has ended and he is in a place in his life where he never thought he would be and is trying to find the strength and the will to start over. He sent me an email stating that he really needed God’s help and if all his friends and church family would pray for him, he felt he would be alright.
I am praying for him. As I do, I wander, “How would God answer this prayer?” This is when I came across Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. First, Paul said he had found himself in a place where he HAD to trust God for the outcome…not on his own unique abilities, ingenious plans or incessant worries. I think sometimes the question, “How will God answer this prayer” should start with, “Will I let God answer this prayer?” Read the rest of this entry »
