Monday is Date Day
On Mondays, after dropping Brandon off at school, Dana and I are trying to make it a standing date to head to the mountains and focus on nothing but each other. It has been awesome! We are so much in love and because we have been so busy this year, we have not spent the time we want to “Be in love”. So Mondays are the day we renew! Here are some Smoky Mountain Views we took in from today’s “Date Day” (by the way, it was about 32 degrees at the top with a pretty stout wind from the north. burrrr):
A View from The Summit – 10/26/2008
What an awesome day at The Summit! We now have 1 month under our belts as we tackle this huge vision to help transform the way this region thinks about God and His people.
- In our first month as a church we averaged 130 in attendance. Of that we averaged 29 in the Summit Kidz worship experience. That is fantastic. God gave favor to His word because the only real advertising we did for our launch were the 5,500 door hangers we passed out.
- I was wandering if we could handle setup if hardly anyone showed up….now I know! We did great!
- I also knew eventually the day would come when we would be short workers in the kids area…it didn’t take long. Read the rest of this entry »
I was wandering.
As I have spent some time listening and engaging in the first recorded teachings from our Lord Jesus Christ, I wandered…what if we as Christ followers actually lived out His principles of happiness. I was wandering if we actually tried to live out the 8 characteristics of a happy person how our lives would be changed. Could we stand it? Could we really be that much of a Christ follower? Sundays are fine, life change that doesn’t require too much discomfort is fine, anything that isn’t too radical is fine…but, what if we actually lived out the principles of Matthew 5 everyday?
After all, this is the first time God the Father decided to record a public teaching of Jesus, the Son. I was wandering what life would be like if everyone who said they were a Christ follower were also a Christ imitator. How would the world change if we greeted each day understanding our desperate need for a loving Creator (v.3) and if our hearts were deeply broken because we finally realized how brutally we hurt Him (v.4)? A View From The Summit – 10/19/2008
Yesterday was an awesome day at The Summit! Compared to many portable church situations I have been in, we have it easy. We have a great relationship with The King’s Academy, we are allowed to store ALL our equipment on site and backstage, we don’t have to setup stage and chairs in the auditorium and there are families and students who live on campus that can simply walk to church.
This is the view I took in as we celebrate week #3 at The Summit:
- We have the best leadership team I have ever served with! You guys rock!
- Our volunteers are relentless. These jump in, take charge and make it their own. I love the passion.
- Tyler Patterson and the band were our worship leaders “on loan” for this week. That brought the house down. These guys had a great attitude and did an awesome job.
- I am speaking with 2 worship pastor prospects this week. Keep us in your prayers.
- We had 440 brand new theater seats to make our bottoms a little more comfortable. It was a lot of seats! Our attendance was up, but it looked down. Read the rest of this entry »
New Summit T’s
We finally got some new T-Shirts at The Summit. I can’t wait to see two or three-hundred people running around Sevier County sportin’ the new Summit T’s. That would be so flippin’ incredible. I thought I would go ahead and have the hottest chic I know model these new T-Shirts…my wife of course!
Just give us a shout if you want to get a little piece of the latest fashion in Summit Wear, click here

Are you Happy?
Happiness…who’s responsibility is it to make sure I am happy? I think there are times we believe that. That my boss needs to work harder to make sure I am happy at my job; my wife needs to pay attention to me more to make sure I am happy in my marriage; my church needs to minister to me more to make sure I am happy in my spiritual life. Sometimes we walk around thinking it is always someone else’s fault that we are not happy!
This Sunday @ The Summit, we are going to talk about that and see who really is in charge of our own happiness and see what it takes to make sure we are happy! See you @ 10 AM on Sunday.
Be Blessed!

Just a few Majestic Pics
Dana and I had a date day last Friday. We dropped Brandon off at school and headed to Townsend and Cades Cove in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We stopped at our new Favorite country store and had breakfast. Biscuits & Gravy, side of meat and coffee – 2 people – $7.23! We then headed to Cades Cove where I snapped the following pics. I’m looking forward to our next Date Day!
Summit 101
On November 9th we are going to celebrate the beginning of our new church by introducing Summit 101. Summit 101 is simply The Summit’s orientation class. Just like when you get ready to climb a new peak, start a new adventure or begin a new challenge course, our orientation class is designed to help you get familiar with the journey ahead.
Although you don’t have to join The Summit after you attend Summit 101, Read the rest of this entry »
