Creative Marketing at Craven Wing’s

August 29, 2008 at 11:53 am (Church Planter) (, , , , , )

These are tables toppers we have that will Advertise a “Limited Time Only” recipe that is helping promote the launch of The Summit. The owners have been very gracious and we got to help crate this unique recipe for our church. This is a form of “guerrilla marketing” and we pray will be very effective. These cards will be double-sided and laminated as they set atop each table in the restaurant. Pretty cool!

Be Happy !

40 Days ‘Till Launch

August 26, 2008 at 7:55 am (Church Planter) (, , , , , , , , )

It sounds like a title you might hear from NASA about their next shuttle launch. Systems checks, security protocols, personnel procedures, detailed reports…all the things your should check, review, scrutinize and re-check before you engage in a mission as crucial as a shuttle launch.

However, we aren’t talking about NASA, we are talking about the world of church planting. Believe it or not, terms like planting and launching are not familiar with everyone and they are a far cry from the traditional terms of chartering a church, interstate missions, church pioneering, or the very simple term, ’starting a mission’.

Maybe we use these new terms to really express the new life (planting) or to express the excitement (launching) and momentum of life change we hope to bring to a community. Whatever the reason, it is an exciting and busy time of sharing the Word and getting ready for a brand new community of Christ-followers where we can help people find God again!

Here are some things that happen in the life of a new church plant in the last 40 Days to Launch:

Holy Spirit Favor

August 24, 2008 at 11:02 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

I pray with all my heart that God continue the season of pouring out His Spirit on Charlotte, North Carolina, Steven Furtick and the Elevation Team. It’s absolutely incredible. The Great awakening is taking place. I also pray with all that I am that we experience that same season of favor, life change and annointing of God’s Holy Spirit in Seymour. God, give us favor to reach thousands and thousands as we share your LOVE! We are believing God for 300 on our first Sunday on October 5th and now I don’t think we are believing God for enough lives changed! We pray for more!

Extreme Makover: “Love Edition” Part 2

August 24, 2008 at 10:47 pm (Love Neighbor) (, , , , , , , , )

I need to apologize for disappearing for a few days. Computer problems and trying to figure out where I was kept me preoccupied. Nonetheless, here is part 2 in this exploration of trying to figure out how to do God’s community the right way.

Obviously there are hundreds of books, by far more experienced and knowledgeable people than me, on this subject. But I am writing this article more from the perspective of experience. The unique experience of seeing it from 4 different stages that I have walked in the past 10 years.

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:10, NIV)

Here is a well known statement about America’s churches, even quoted by their pastors (as if they couldn’t do something about it), “Christians are the only ones who devour their wounded”. Read the rest of this entry »

Extreme Makeover ‘Love Edition’ (Part 1)

August 18, 2008 at 12:52 am (Church Planter) (, , , , , , , , , )

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians6:10)

If you can watch  Extreme Makeover: Home Edition without getting a lump in your throat, you are a stone. I have to tell the truth. When I watch that show there are times I just want to let it go, cry out and bawl like a little girl.

Tonight was no different. Being in the season of church planting that I am in, it also got me thinking about the church. It has been my goal to redefine the way people see the church. Redefine the way people think about God. Throughout all this the motto of The Summit has been “You Always Felt Like There Had To Be More…THERE IS!” And then we defined that more as Love. Straight from Simple Church we even put it into our purpose “Love God”, “Love People”, and “Impact The World”.

Now I am moved to define that love. Why? Because in my opinion, the church as a whole, needs an Extreme Makeover! How do I know? Because I have the unique privilege to have seen the church, its leadership and its heartbeat from four different perspectives: Traditional Pastor, lay member, corporate marketer and a church planter. I have found as a whole that love is elusive. This is what I discovered: Read the rest of this entry »

Is he a god?

August 17, 2008 at 1:50 am (Jesus) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Obviously Michael Phelps is the most prolific Olympian to ever dawn the red, white and blue. He has single-handily captured the attention of a nation and brought interest back into an event that had become ordinary at best. His accomplishments may never be matched, at least in an Olympic pool, and he will most certainly be referenced for the rest of our lifetimes anytime anyone speaks of swimming or the Olympics!

This only leaves the rest of us mortals wandering, “Is he a god?”

I do recall some pretty amazing things being said about other great athletes”

  • Jim Thorpe, a native American, won both the decathlon and pentathlon, finished fourth in the high jump and seventh in the long jump at the Stockholm Olympics in 1912 before he led the US to victory over Sweden at baseball. Jim Thorpe was called an American Icon. Read the rest of this entry »
