Why Should I Be A Part of The Summit?

July 31, 2008 at 1:47 pm (Church Planter) (, , , , , , )

“Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.

So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith” (Galatians 6:7-10, The Message).

It is estimated that 85% of the community in and around Seymour do not attend a local church and/or have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. No doubt, there is a good segment of that percentage that used to be a part of a local church. Maybe they were a vibrant part, using their gifts and passions to help people and encourage them in their journey through life. Read the rest of this entry »

July 30, 2008 at 4:59 pm (Church Planter) (, , , , )

Kids are important at The Summit and that includes the nursery, toddlers, pre-school and K-5th grade. We want to invest in children and their families and we don’t believe they can be too young to start learning about God’s awesome promises. When we do it we want to be creative, innovative and interactive!

Here’s our cool Children’s Church for Pre-Schoolers

“Church” re-Thought

July 24, 2008 at 9:41 am (Church Planter) (, , , , , , , , , )

One of the primary objectives of The Summit is to help redefine the perception of “church” for those who just don’t do the church thing.

The Summit wants to redefine the perception of “church” in Seymour, Tennessee. What does that mean? It means we want to change the perception of those that don’t do church from viewing the church as a negative, detached group of hypocritical, so-called Christians who don’t have a realistic view of today’s culture… Read the rest of this entry »

It’s a New Day, A New Song

July 18, 2008 at 8:48 am (Faith) (, , , , , )

Today is a new day. A new season of life.

Another change. A time of total surrender. Now is the the time to believe that God is who the Bible says He is…or not.

It is a time to trust. Do I run like Elijah and find a cave. Wish for death to come quickly. Do I forget all of God’s promises, even for a minute, and lose all hope. Hope for me. Hope for those who follow me.

Or do I cry-out like King David and press God for a new song. Grab hold of God and believe Him. Believe Him for everything. Total trust. A lifting out of the pit and establishing my future on a new path, on a solid rock of a better tomorrow.

I choose the new song. The total surrender. The innocence of a child. The trust of an invalid. I give Him my all and trust Him for more. It’s a new season. A new Life. A NEW SONG.

Be Happy!

Another Church? What makes you different?

July 16, 2008 at 1:01 am (Forgiveness) (, , , , , , , , )

For many, the church has lost its fascination and respect in the community. Even among other churches and leaders, the notion of starting another church in a town with several churches already, is seen as unnecessary and unneeded. My question is why?

The answer…most churches make no lasting impact among the majority. The people who attend the churches have nothing distinct or unique. For many in the church, they have no greater love, no intention to forgive, and no recognizable difference in their lifestyles. Going church has become a duty or a release valve of guilt toward an invisible God. So when we talk about starting another church, established church say, “huh?” and the community says, “whatever”. The Little Suprises are Cool

July 13, 2008 at 9:27 am (God's Provision) (, , , , )

Since being in east Tennessee Dana and I love going to the mountains and enjoying nature, the wildlife, the tranquility, and the peace that only The Smoky Mountains can offer.

Recently we have seen over 20 bear. Yesterday we saw one up close and personal when a 300 lb sow came up the hill and said hello to Dana from about 3 feet away. Wow! That is the closest we ever want to be and don’t need it again.

We expected to see bear yesterday simply because we have enjoyed that rare pleaure every week for about the last month. However, we just didn’t expect to see this… Read the rest of this entry »

Why a new church in Seymour?

July 12, 2008 at 8:50 am (Church Planter) (, , , )

Here is the short version. We believe God has led us to start a new church in Seymour that focuses completely on those who don’t go to church anywhere. Those who quit church because they had been hurt, rejected, turned-off or had a bad experience. We want to reach those who just slipped out but never really found that right time to slip back in.

We feel called here to eat with those who haven’t memorized the King James Version of the Bible, to live next to those who don’t know the words to Amazing Grace and to hang out with those who could care less about Sunday School or flower committees. In other words, we are called to reach the sinners, not the righteous. After all…we can relate. Read the rest of this entry »
