Dry Bones Need to be Disconnected

I realized the other day that the most read post I have written is “Skeleton #5 (Me)”. I originally posted the article over a year ago which was the last of a series on burying the bones of the past. I would like to say people were searching for a release from the past and came across my blog in their quest for healing.

However, it seems most have found this particular post in the search for dead things. That’s right. They have searched the terms: skeletons, sitting skeletons, fighting skeletons, married skeletons. dirty bones, bury the skeletons, living skeletons and many other variations of skeleton. Go figure. I typed in skeleton on google and never did see my blog.

So it would appear that we have a deep facination of the past. I even found a blog that specializes in finding the “skeletons in the closets” of famous people.  There were tons on archeology, bone detectives, and  even psychological disorders.

I agree the past can have a lot to say about someone. Sometimes it is a good barometer of how they will act in the future. It can be an informative glimpse of their past tendencies, their pattern of decision making, their choices in friends and their mistakes.

But sometimes it is a good teacher of what NOT to do in the future. The past can be a painful reminder of unwise steps and hurtful actions. It can be a character shaper that transforms a person into something better and gives them a perspective that only life, maturity and experience can offer.

Here’s what Isaiah had to say, “Some people say, ‘Ask the mediums and the fortune tellers what to do.’ But I tell you that people should ask their God for help. Why should people who are still alive ask something from the dead? You should follow the teachings and the agreements of the Lord. The mediums and the fortune-tellers do not speak the word of the Lord, so their words are worth nothing” (Isaiah 8:19-20, NCV)

So, some stay in the past and some choose to LIVE TODAY!
