Greatly Humbled

May 29, 2008 at 9:24 am (Church Planter) (, , , , , , )

Luke 14:11, “All who make themselves great will be made humble. but those who make themselves humble will be made great.” (NCV)

Since moving to the area to start a new church I have made it a point to contact area pastors and churches in order to introduce myself, begin new relationships and just have a cup of coffee. It has been quite interesting, to say the least, to see the different receptions I receive from the different churches and pastors. As far as the size of the church and the pastor’s attitude, I have found size doesn’t matter :) . Read the rest of this entry »

The Season of Change

May 28, 2008 at 8:47 pm (Happiness) (, , , )

This past Wednesday Tyler graduated from White Hall High School. Dana is a very proud mother and this marks yet another season of change.

Can you remember when you graduated from high school? The dreams? The possibilities? The goals? The Plans?

What did you accomplish when you left high school that you set out to do?

What dreams did you never realize?

Is it too late to lay hold of those dreams?

That’s a Bahr

May 28, 2008 at 6:50 pm (Church Planter) (, , , )

Yea, I know it’s spelled “bear”, but when they get this close it’s pronounced “bahr”!

This big black bear actually got a lot closer (about 40 ft) and they were 2 of 7 we saw Monday at Cades Cove in The Great Smoky Mts National Park.

Ya gotta love east Tennessee!

Simple Faith

May 22, 2008 at 6:20 am (Faith) (, , , )

I am watching Brandon play right now. He entertaines himself pretty good. We just watched “Evan Almighty” and he is pretending he is Noah :)

As he plays I see his innocense.

No cares. No worries. Just the need to have fun, pretend and imagine.

As Noah, he came out of the bathroom with a white towel around his neck and head (Noah’s beard and hair).

He had a yellow blanket with a white towel over it for his robe. He was lookin’ good. His need to be like Noah came from watching a movie. He knows Noah was a good man, because we told him. No further questions needed.

His faith is uncomplicated. No need for long explanations. “Just because” even works at times. His faith is simple. I told him about Noah and the flood and this was his response,

“Well, if you say that’s the way it happened. I’m going to believe you”.

Is that the faith of a child God so desperately wants from us?

Be Happy!

Faith…It’s a Funny Thing

May 21, 2008 at 7:51 pm (Faith) (, , )

I’m sitting here tonight thinking about my need to quit my radio station job. I moved to east Tennessee to plant a church. I kept my job in Nashville because I rationalized that I needed to provide for my family, pay my bills, meet my financial responsibilities and take care of my business. Ironically, I have had a ton of stress trying to fulfill my duties in this capacity. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s a God Thing

May 20, 2008 at 8:49 pm (Purpose Driven) (, , , , , , , , , )

Thanks to Matthew I took some time yesterday to watch the live stream of the Purpose -Driven Summit. Tony Morgan and Carlos Whittaker did an exceptional job on the interviews and asking the right questions of the participants in the green room.

It was interesting hearing from the different leaders from different parts of the country and regions and what God is doing in each one. I particularly enjoyed Jonathan Falwell. Read the rest of this entry »

Dry Bones Need to be Disconnected

May 20, 2008 at 6:31 am (Skeletons in the Closet) (, , , , , )

I realized the other day that the most read post I have written is “Skeleton #5 (Me)”. I originally posted the article over a year ago which was the last of a series on burying the bones of the past. I would like to say people were searching for a release from the past and came across my blog in their quest for healing. Read the rest of this entry »

It Takes a Team

May 19, 2008 at 2:32 pm (Church Planter) (, , , , , , )

The Summit is a brand new, come-as-you-are, innovative church experience, that are all about helping people get a fresh start on life.. We are launching this unique church in Seymour (between Knoxville & Sevierville) and will be meeting at The King’s Academy (Private Boarding School). We will have a newly renovated 550+ seat auditorium with a nice stage and sound system when we launch on September 21st..

We are looking for that person who can take us to a place of extreme worship with a pro-presentation. The new church staff has a lead pastor, student pastor and a Financial Director and are wanting to add a children’s pastor, worship pastor, small group/first impressions pastor and administrative and support team members to complete our launch team.

The lead pastor has an awesome vision for the community and the church and he has a unique vision for a team-oriented staff.

If you find yourself in a place where “you always felt like there had to be more”, this may be the team for you. Must have a team members heart, church planters vision and a sacrificial spirit. Check-out www.TheSummitLive.tv for more info and then call 865-686-5280 to discuss this life changing opportunity!

PS. IF THIS ISN’T WHAT YOU ARE CALLED TO…PLEASE PASS IT ON TO OTHERS YOU THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED. HELP ME NETWORK AND GET THE WORD OUT. THANKS

Be Happy!

It’s a Changing World

May 17, 2008 at 8:36 am (Parenthood) (, , , , )

Kids grow-up. They mature, expand, discover, they find new horizons. Dana’s kids are grown. One has found her new life, someone to share that life with. No more late night wake-ups from her or requests for security in the form of a hug. The other is graduating from high-school. Yet another passage of life has been fulfilled and we don’t hear the need for comfort or the long-lost simple, yet fulfilling word, “mommy” and the joy that word carries with it.

My kids are teenagers. One is getting his driver’s license and has started his first job. It seems to be more of a license of release from being my little boy than a license to operate a car. The innocence seems to be so far removed and his little fingers which once wrapped around my thumb, now firmly grasp my hand. My daughter has entered the realm of womanhood. I still get to hear “daddy”, which may always flow from the lips of my little girl, but somehow the tone carries with it a much deeper meaning and a maturity I didn’t expect.
